Accused allege sexual assault, say save us from inhuman torture in Tihar Jail

V K Anand, representing Ram Singh and Mukesh, told mediapersons that the four accused in the Delhi gangrape case have alleged that they were sexual assaulted inside Tihar Jail.
He said the four men were "scared" and did not want to return to Tihar.
"They said they would prefer to be shot rather than returned to the harassment and torture in jail," advocate Singh claimed.
Anand maintained that Ram Singh could not have committed suicide. "When I met him on Friday, he was content with the course of the trial. He must have been compelled to take such a step because of the torture and harassment... He didn't take such a step when the trial began and the world was calling him names. Why would he take this step now?" Anand said.
A sixth accused in the case has been declared a juvenile and his case is being heard by the Juvenile Justice Board.
On December 16, a 23-year-old woman was gangraped and tortured, allegedly by the six, on a moving bus and later thrown out with a male friend who was also assaulted. She died in a Singapore hospital thirteen days later.

And another source say as,

New Delhi: While Tihar Jail authorities claim the prime accused in the Delhi gangrape case committed suicide on Monday, the family and the lawyer of Ram Singh suspect “foul play”. They say he did not commit suicide but was instead murdered, claims a report published in Tehelka.

According to the report, “The correspondent of Tehelka met the parents of Ram Singh a day before his alleged suicide, where they shared their apprehensions about the security of Ram Singh and his brother Mukesh, another accused in the case. They expressed fear that their children were being subjected to torture and sodomy in Tihar jail.”

“If you are going to hang them, it is better that you hang us too. We have nothing else to live for,” Tehelka quoted Ram Singh’s mother as saying.

Jail No 3 and Jail no 4 are notorious for torture and violence committed by inmates on fellow inmates.

The official statement by jail authorities that Ram Singh was “found hanging at 5:45 am” raise several questions given that the ‘suicide’ might have taken place between 3:30 am and 5:30 am, the time when change of guard takes place. The timing between which the alleged suicide took place hints at possibility of his ‘murder’  during change of guard in the prison.

Ram Singh’s family has been continuously pressing for a CBI probe alleging that he was murdered and that it was not a case of suicide. “There is some foul play. He was very happy with the way the trial was going on,” alleged advocate V K Anand who was representing the deceased and his brother Mukesh.
